KUCHING, Dec 6 — Today is Nomination Day for the 12th Sarawak Election.
Eighty-two seats are up for grabs in the election which had to be postponed from the middle of this year due to the tight measures enforced, including a nationwide emergency and a statewide emergency, to keep the people safe from the COVID-19 pandemic. Sarawak has the biggest state legislative assembly in the country.
The nomination of candidates will take place from 9 am to 10 am.
A total of 1,252,014 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the election, polling for which is on Dec 18 and early voting on Dec 14.
Here are the updates of the Sarawak Election:
As of 11 am:
– Former deputy minister Ali Biju to defend Krian seat as Independent against candidates from PBK, GPS and PSB
– Five-cornered fight in Bawang Assan involving candidates from GPS, PBK, PSB, DAP and Independent
As of 10.30 am:
– Sarawak polls: Tanjung Datu to see four-cornered contest between GPS, PSB, PBK and an Independent candidate
– Sarawak polls: Four-cornered contest in Padungan involving DAP, GPS, Parti Bumi Kenyalang and Aspirasi
– Sarawak polls: Abang Johari to face candidates from PSB, Amanah and PBK in four-cornered fight in Gedong – Returning officer.
As of 10 am:
– Nominations closed at all 82 centres.
As of 9.45 am:
– Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas (GPS) and two other candidates – Mikail Mathew Abdullah (PKR) and Andria Dundang @ Andria Gelayan (PSB) – have submitted their nomination papers for the Bukit Saban seat.
– For the Tanjung Datu seat, Azizul Annuar Adenan (GPS), son of the late former chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, has filed his nomination papers, along with Jery’in Fauzi (PSB); Abdul Talib Ba’ee (Independent) and Goem Anak Pijar (PBK).
As of 9.30 am :
– In Bukit Sari, three candidates, Awang Tengah (GPS); Alias (PSB) and Riyah from PBK have submitted their nomination papers.
– For the Asajaya seat, four candidates have submitted their nomination forms – Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah from GPS; Ishak Buji (PSB); Mohamad Mahdeen Saharuddin (PBK) and Mahmud Epah from PKR.
The Bawang Assan seat seems headed for a five-cornered contest with the following candidates having submitted their nomination papers, in that order:

2. Ricky Anak Enteri (Independent)
3. Amy Lau (DAP)
4. Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (PSB)
5. Michelle Ling Shyan Mih (PBK)
As of 9.15 am
– In Saratok, Friday Belik, the GPS candidate for the Krian seat, has arrived at the nomination centre at the Sri Krian Community Hall.
– DAP candidate for the Baleh seat, Kenneth Usang George Lagong first to arrive at the nomination center at Dewan SMK Kapit No. 2.
– In Tanjung Datu, GPS candidate Azizul Annuar Adenan has submitted his nomination papers.
– In Gedong, Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri was also present to support Abang Johari who is contesting the seat for the first time. Prior to this, Abang Johari was the incumbent for the Satok seat since 1981.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has submitted his nomination papers as the GPS candidate for the Bukit Saban seat.
As of 9.00 am:
– The nomination process began at all 82 candidate nomination centres for the 12th Sarawak State Election.
– Five candidates have arrived at the Pujut seat nomination centre at the Miri City Council to submit their nomination forms. They are Bruce Chai Khim Cheong (PSB); Adam Yii Siew Sang (GPS); Leslie Ting Siong Ngiap (PBK); Eric Chin Feng Shiong (Aspirasi); and Alan Ling Sie Kiong (DAP).
As of 8.45 am:
– Five candidates have arrived at the Pujut seat nomination centre at the Miri City Council to submit their nomination forms. They are Bruce Chai Khim Cheong (PSB); Adam Yii Siew Sang (GPS); Leslie Ting Siong Ngiap (PBK); Eric Chin Feng Shiong (Aspirasi); and Alan Ling Sie Kiong (DAP).
– Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has arrived at the Gedong Community Hall to submit his nomination papers for the Gedong seat.
– GPS candidate Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah for the Asajaya seat arrived at the nomination centre at the Main Hall of SMK Asajaya No.2 at 8.57 am.
In contrast to busy nomination centres, no candidates have arrived to submit nomination forms for the Krian seat at Sri Krian Community Hall, Saratok.
PBK candidate, Leslie Ting Siong Ngiap arrived at the nomination centre for the Pujut seat at Miri City Council at 8.33 am.
– Alan Ling Sie Kiong, the DAP’s candidate for Pujut, also arrived at the same time.
– Strict SOP in force at the Gedong Nomination Centre with only one representative of a media organisation allowed to enter to record the nomination process.
As of 8.30 am :
– in Kuching, DAP candidate for the Batu Kawah seat Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen has arrived at the nomination centre at the Padawan Municipal Council Hall.
– Zainuddin Budug, Parti Bumi Kenyalang candidate for Tellian has arrived at Menara Pehin Setia Raja, Mukah.
– GPS candidate for Semop, Datuk Abdullah Saidol has arrived at the nomination centre at the Meradong District Office Multipurpose Hall
– In Tanjung Datu, GPS candidate Azizul Annuar Adenan has arrived at the nomination centre at the Lundu Community Hall.
As of 8.15 am :
-Royston Valentine, the GPS candidate for Tellian, has arrived at the Menara Pehin Setia Raja nomination centre, Mukah
– GPS candidate for Batu Kawah Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian the first candidate to arrive at the nomination centre at the Padawan Municipal Council Hall.
– At the Pujut candidate nomination centre at Miri City Council, GPS candidate and former Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, became the first candidate to arrive.
– Similarly at Tellian, Mohd Arwin Lim Abdullah was the earliest candidate to arrive at the Menara Pehin Setia Raja nomination centre in Mukah; in Bukit Saban, PKR candidate Mikail Mathew Abdullah has arrived at the Bukit Saban Nomination Centre at the Spaoh Sub -District Office
As of 8.00 am:
– Health workers conducted sanitisation as early as 7.30 am at the nomination centre for the Gedong seat at the Gedong Community Hall.
– GPS candidate and Bukit Sari incumbent Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the earliest candidate to arrive at the Bukit Sari nomination centre at the Lawas District Council, arriving at 7.50 am.
